For the love of pink

08Sep06

A close friend once told me that her mother had sternly instructed her never to trust a man in a pink shirt, a concept which both my friend, and her mother stand by firmly. I have no less than three pink shirts, so I’m not sure where that leaves me. Perhaps I shouldn’t wear any of them to interviews in the future, just in case they’re not the only ones with this line of thought.

Anyway, during October the Innovation Station will be embracing pink; or as its CSS knows it, #ffccff (or there about). Oh, and before you ask, I’m not out to target a new democratic, but instead the Innovation Station will be doing its part to raise awareness of breast cancer.

The idea behind going pink for October started off as a discussion on the 9rules forum, and is being championed by Matthew Oliphant. Scores of 9rulers and other blogs, including the Innovation Station are following suite to show their support for this very important cause.

I am extremely pleased to be announcing my participation in this initiative, as at the beginning of this year my mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Thanks to early discovery and the excellent support she received from NHS staff she is making a full recovery and is able to once again live life to the full.

In order to show my gratitude for the help and support she received I am intending to run the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK, a charity which specialises in funding research into treatments for all kinds of cancers, and more importantly backs the search for a cure.
