Climbing K2

21Aug06

Over the past month or so I have really got stuck in to learning the ins and outs of WordPress and K2 whilst I have been setting up the blog. Whilst I have a basic grasp of XHTML & CSS, it is quite a challenge to apply that to something as complex as WordPress.

Anyway, I am slowly getting there, working through customising all the theme files and tweaking the CSS. Although the more I get done the more things that need smoothing out, such as tidying up AJAX libraries to speed up load times. I am still working on the header which will have a number of functions, including a slideshow of my latest photos from flickr (the one up at the moment is just a demo loading sample images from the site). There are also a fair few issues that I need to sort out, such as making the method for laying out the background images more elegantly, as there is a rather unsightly flash when you first load the site at the moment.

One thing is for sure, I have a newfound respect for the blogging community for the amount of work that goes into building and maintaining a blog, even before you get round to writing any posts. So to all you guys out there doing this stuff, thanks for being an inspiration and keep up the good work!

  1. You have a nice clean design and I like it. I’m new to your blog, but I’m going to spend some time here and see what you have. I also am new to WordPress and the K2 theme. I’ve just recently installed it and am working on customizing a style for myself.

Nice job you’ve done around here :)

  2. Hey thanks Jason, this site is definately a work in process, and there is a lot of tweaking to go yet!

My blog is pretty new, and I am only just starting to write for it, a process which takes a while as I am quite obessional when it comes to writing! I hope you find my musings of interest, and I look forward to see what you do with your site.
